The hourly support staff role is typically a full‑time position paid on an hourly basis. Many schedules follow a two‑week rotation of 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next, though not all positions use this model. This position is benefits‑eligible
Direct Support Professionals provide person‑centered support to adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or mental health conditions in accordance with Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and MaineCare Section 21 standards. DSPs promote skill development, community inclusion, health and safety, and overall quality of life while ensuring that all services align with each individual's Person‑Centered Plan (PCP).
DSP, CRMA, CPR and First Aid and SafetyCare certifications are required for this position, however, all training is provided by Lee Residential Care, LLC. Applicants do not need to hold these certifications prior, but must complete all training within the required time frames upon hire.
In this position, they fulfill the duties of a Direct Support Professional as described below. Overnight staff help assure the home's cleanliness and complete the required documentation for services provided depending on the individual's needs. These duties may include safety concerns or medical needs.
We require that all staff receive DSP Certification, Residential Medication Aide Certification, First Aid/CPR Certification, and Safety Care Training. All staff must also undergo consumer-specific training regarding various medical needs. We provide all required training. It is expected that you attend classes as you are scheduled for them.
The direct support professional's responsibilities are to provide support and skill-building activities to people with severe, prolonged mental illness and intellectual disabilities, treating all consumers in their care with dignity and respect. Teaching independent living skills per treatment plan includes but is not limited to:
- Adult Living Skills - Personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation, and budgeting.
- Social Integration Skills - Communications, conflict resolution, and social interaction.
- Community Integration Skills - Resource identification and utilization.
Direct support professionals (DSPs) objectively document on appropriate forms:
- Incidents and accidents.
- Daily progress toward goals.
- Medication monitoring.
- Changes in consumers' health status and behavior patterns.
- Referrals, as appropriate.
Also, DSPs perform the following tasks:
- Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Administer medication per guidelines following training.
- Develop and encourage consumers' integration into the community.
- Transport consumers to community locations including, but not limited to, banks, libraries, physicians' offices, stores, and churches, as appropriate.
- Provide supportive problem-solving activities.
- Develop and maintain support, as needed.
- Use active listening techniques to provide emotional support conducive to consumers' growth and wellbeing.
- Identify consumers' needs and develop a treatment plan with the administrator to address them.
- Attend staff meetings, supervision, and in-service training as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
- Utilize QBS Safety Care techniques to maintain safety for individuals served.
