The Overnight Third Shift Direct Support Professional (DSP) serves as the primary support staff during overnight hours and is responsible for ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and continuity of care for the individuals served. Overnight staff must remain knowledgeable about each individual's Person-Centered Plan, upcoming medical appointments, and current support needs. Clear communication with Administrators and incoming day staff is essential to ensure high-quality, consistent care.
This position requires arriving on time for scheduled overnight shifts and fulfilling all DSP responsibilities throughout the shift. Overnight staff provide supervision, support, and documentation during sleeping hours, while remaining alert and available to respond to any needs, emergencies, or behavioral concerns that may arise.
Overnight schedules may vary and can include rotating or consistent third-shift hours, including weekends and holidays as required. This position is eligible for benefits based on employment status.
All staff are required to obtain the following certifications:
DSP Certification
Residential Medication Aide Certification
First Aid/CPR Certification
Safety Care (QBS) Training
We provide all required training. Attendance at scheduled certification and in-service classes is mandatory.
Position Responsibilities
Direct Support Professionals provide support and skill-building services to individuals with severe and prolonged mental illnesses and intellectual disabilities. All individuals must be treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
Skill Development and Support Includes (but is not limited to):
Adult Living Skills: Personal hygiene assistance, light housekeeping, meal preparation support, and budgeting skills.
Social Integration Skills: Communication development, conflict resolution, and appropriate social interaction.
Community Integration Skills: Identifying and accessing community resources and supports.
Documentation Requirements
DSPs must objectively and accurately document on appropriate forms:
Incidents and accidents
Daily progress toward individual goals
Medication monitoring and administration
Changes in health status or behavioral patterns
Referrals and follow-up actions as appropriate
Additional Duties
Provide overnight supervision to ensure safety and wellbeing
Assist with personal care needs, including bathing, dressing, and feeding as required
Administer medications according to guidelines after proper training
Encourage and support community integration and independence
Transport individuals to approved community locations when required
Provide supportive problem-solving and emotional support
Identify individual needs and collaborate with the Administrator to support treatment planning
Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and in-service trainings
Utilize QBS Safety Care techniques to maintain a safe environment
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required License: Valid Driver's License
